The Village Doctor Newsletter – Week of June 1, 2021

Concierge Medicine News California

Happy Summer, Friends of TVD!

With the arrival of summer, the celebration of (even some in-person!) school graduations, and an upcoming radical lifting of COVID directives by the State of California on June 15th, this seems like the perfect time to re-introduce “The Village Doctor Newsletter” and to retire last year’s labor of love (and necessity), the “CV🦠News”.

Below find our new look, but the same old categories of content, including an introduction from me, an update from Dana Sanderson, my Business Manager (on an as needed basis), an article focusing on a current topic in Internal Medicine as well as Pediatrics, and then some closing thoughts from The Village Square, a venue for updates from current friends or patients of the practice, or even a piece or two from our former Hope and Grace collection.

We will also be updating our website to let you find these different contributions easily, as well as to be able to SEARCH all of the content we’ve created over these past several years. We continue to be proud of our efforts, and would appreciate your sharing the word, and encouraging your friends and family to sign up for our newsletter. 😇

In health,

Eric Weiss, MD, June 1, 2021

Guest Authorship: WHY IS QUALITY SLEEP SO IMPORTANT?

Last week the CDC updated it’s mask guidelines. But as we know from previous guidance, many states have relaxed their own guidelines in comparison to the ones given by the CDC.

This time is no different. States are not obligated to follow the CDC and can have separate milder or stricter directives based on their own COVID 19 numbers.

The main change in the guidelines issued in the first week of May was that fully vaccinated individuals no longer have to wear masks or maintain 6 feet of distance in indoor spaces.

Many were surprised by this announcement, but it does come as there is a consistent downward trend in COVID 19 new cases counts as well as deaths since January... Read more

Guest Authorship: “LET US BEGIN” – SOULFUL INSIGHTS

Many parents who desperately sought out vaccines for themselves earlier in the year are now asking tough questions about vaccinating their children 12-15 years old.  As a pediatrician, I take pride in reassuring parents that we are much more cautious, conservative, and thoughtful with our children’s health than our own.  And it is totally understandable that we hold new therapeutics for them to a higher standard of safety.  The good news is that this vaccine is very safe, incredibly effective, has very mild side effects, and it is helping kids get back into their normal school, social, sporting, vacation, camp, and family lives.

Here are some of the most common questions parents have about the COVID-19 vaccine... Read more

HOW CAN I TELL IF MY CHILD HAS A CONCUSSION & HOW CAN WE PROTECT AGAINST THEM?

You may have noticed that concussions have become a hot topic and we here at The Village Doctor think that is great. Concussion research is booming and continues to shed light on traumatic brain injury, but also makes us realize that we have a lot to learn. Aside from wearing the appropriate safety gear for the sport or activity, children need to learn proper techniques and methods of safe play to prevent concussions. Additionally, raising awareness and opening the discussion amongst parents, coaches, teachers, kids and their doctors is one way that we can help keep student athletes safer!… Read more

In the long-standing tradition of Woodside Elementary School, and after a 1-year hiatus due to COVID, this year’s operetta is SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK LIVE JR., performed by the 8th grade class of 2021. This year’s Operetta will look different from past performances (following COVID guidelines) and the pre-recorded show will livestream for families to watch at home. Performances are on Sat. June 5th @6pm and Sun. June 6th @ 5pm. This is a guaranteed great night for the whole family! We at the Village Doctor are proud to sponsor this event and can’t wait to see the 8th graders perform.
