Is Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy Worth It?

We hear this question all the time—“Is it reallypelvic physical therapy - most experienced pelvic floor therapist Dr. Tanya Goodrich, PT,DPT worth seeing a pelvic floor physical therapist?” And our answeris: absolutely. Especially if you’re experiencing symptoms that have been brushed off as “normal” but are interfering with your quality of life.

Do you pee a little when you sneeze, laugh, or jump?
Feel like you always need to know where the nearest bathroom is?
Avoid running or exercising because of the fear of leaking?
Deal with pelvic pressure, pain during intimacy, or just feel like something is “off” in your body after childbirth or with aging?

These are common, but they are not normal, and they are treatable.

At Healthy Pelvis Physical Therapy, we specialize in helping people of all ages and genders take control of their pelvic health. Our team of five exceptional pelvic PTs—each with deep expertise and a whole-body approach—works with everyone from postpartum moms to menopausal women, athletes, dancers, people recovering from surgery, and those in their 60s, 70s, and beyond.

What Happens in a Pelvic Physical Therapy Session?

We often hear from patients, “I had no idea what pelvic physical therapy actually involved!” So let’s talk about what to expect.

Your first visit includes a full-body evaluation, not just of your pelvic floor but also your breathing, posture, alignment, movement patterns, and core function. We’ll talk about your symptoms, your goals, and your daily routines—because pelvic health is connected to how you move, sit, lift, and even how you go to the bathroom.

With your consent, we may perform an internal pelvic floor muscle assessment to evaluate strength, coordination, tone, and mobility. This is never mandatory and always guided by your comfort. We’ll also assess things like hip and spine mobility, core control, and pelvic alignment.

What sets us apart is our hands-on, manual therapy approach paired with targeted, minimal exercise programs—usually just 2–3 things you can actually stick with. Every session is tailored to you. We may work on scar tissue, fascia, breathing mechanics, muscle tension, or how your pelvic floor interacts with your hips, back, and core.

Even one session can provide clarity. We’re not here to hand you a sheet of generic Kegels—we’re here to help you understand what’s going on and how to actually feel better.

Pelvic floor issues don’t heal on their own, but they also don’t require years of therapy. Often, with just a handful of targeted sessions, patients experience noticeable improvement. And the earlier you seek help, the more empowered your recovery can be.

It’s never too late. We’ve had patients in their 80s tell us they wish they had known about this decades ago. You deserve to move, live, and feel good in your body.
