This Valentine’s month, join us at The Village Doctor in focusing attention on all things heart-related with American Heart Month. American Heart Month focuses on women’s heart health in particular, as coronary heart disease is the leading cause of death for women. One in three women die of heart disease or stroke each year, and about 80% of women ages 40-60 have one or more risk factors for coronary heart disease.
Please remind all of your loved ones to have their blood pressure and cholesterol checked regularly, to stop smoking, and to practice a healthy lifestyle of regular exercise and nutritious eating. Consider participating in the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute’s “28 Days Toward a Healthy Heart” challenge, and see the rest of their information on self-care steps you can take to reduce your risk here. If you’re a patient of ours, please do come in for your annual this year so that we can review and minimize heart disease risk factors. Educate your family, teaching your kids the importance of healthy eating and staying active. Support members of our community locally and nationally working to promote physical education, healthy eating and heart disease risk reduction: #SoulFoodSalon, #FoodCorps, #WISEWOMAN, #You’reTheCure
Wishing you a heart-healthy and very happy Valentine’s Day.
