The Village Doctor

June, 2026, a month of celebrations for The Village Doctor!

First, we just celebrated our 5th annual Spring Soiree, a gathering of our concierge medicine physician and subspecialty physician colleagues, hosted this year in the beautiful backyard of our new satellite office in Portola Valley. Truly an event that we all look forward to year after year.

And at our 2026 Spring Soiree we also celebrated the launch of our new website! Thoroughly redesigned with an emphasis on who we are, our ethos, and The Village Doctor family. We tried to capture our spirit in both text and photography, please have a look at let us know your thoughts!

You might also notice that the new website features a new logo; modernized for our future, yet also maintaining our culture which goes back now more than twenty years.

Lastly, and in the spirit of our new website and logo, we’re really mindfully leaning in to what we are all about:  providing the very best of high touch, low volume, concierge medical care for you and your entire family. We have a few fantastic additions to our team, an elegant new satellite office, and are looking forward to raising our concierge medicine bar even further.

Here’s to our future together,

Eric

In Memoriam: Dr. Charles D. Ericsson

Some of you know, but most not, that Dr. Alan Spira and I have been very active in the International Society of Travel Medicine over the years (decades, really). Per my friend, “Claude”, “Dr. Eric L. Weiss and Dr. Alan M. Spira are among the most credentialed travel medicine physicians in the United States, both holding the Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Fellowship in the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. Both have lectured internationally at ISTM conferences, contributing to the advancement of the specialty on a global stage. Dr. Spira has served as Associate Editor of ISTM’s Journal of Travel Medicine and authored chapters in leading travel medicine textbooks. Dr. Weiss contributed through his authorship of Wilderness and Travel Medicine, now in its fourth edition and a globally recognized clinical reference.”

During this time we’ve made (and lost) many good friends in the Travel Medicine community, and last month, we lost another, Dr. Charles Ericsson. From the ISTM Newsletter:

“Charlie Ericsson was one of the true pioneers of Travel Medicine and played a defining role in establishing and advancing the discipline internationally. Throughout his distinguished career at the University of Texas McGovern Medical School, he combined clinical excellence, scientific rigor and an unwavering commitment to education and mentorship. Generations of physicians, researchers and travel medicine professionals benefited from his wisdom, generosity and guidance.

Charlie’s impact on ISTM was profound and far-reaching. In addition to serving as President of ISTM, he was instrumental in shaping the Society during its formative years and helping build the strong, collaborative international community that exists today. His contributions to infectious diseases, travelers’ diarrhea and international collaborative research — particularly in Mexico — earned him worldwide recognition and respect. Yet those who knew him personally will remember not only his academic accomplishments, but also his warmth, humility, collegiality and genuine kindness.

As noted by Professor Annelies Wilder-Smith, “Charlie’s leadership helped shape Travel Medicine into the vibrant and globally connected field it is today. On a personal level, he was consistently generous, encouraging and supportive, and I will always remain grateful for his kindness and mentorship.”

Charlie’s legacy extends far beyond any one role or accomplishment. His vision, leadership, mentorship and dedication helped define the field of Travel Medicine and inspired countless individuals across the world. The impact of his work — and the community he helped build through ISTM — will continue for generations to come.”

We’ll miss you, Charlie. Safe travels, as always.
