Yes, each of our pediatricians caps their practice at roughly 125 patients to ensure each child and family receives all the time and attention they deserve.
How Regularly Should My Child Visit Their Pediatrician?
At The Village Doctor, we will be there for every step of your child’s growth and development. For the first six years or so, you should expect to see your pediatrician a few times a year to ensure your child is thriving and staying on track with any recommended vaccinations. After those early years, we recommend an annual Well Child Check, at a minimum. However, based on our experience, there are benefits to seeing your pediatrician outside of these annual exams or when your child is sick – a trusted relationship with their pediatrician creates a safe place for you to ask questions during the early years, and importantly, a place for your teen to talk through the myriad social and emotional challenges they face growing up today.
Why Does My Child Need To Receive Vaccinations?
It may be hard to believe the excitement and relief parents felt at the development of vaccines that are commonplace today. Your parents may remember the fear of children being paralyzed by polio, or hospitalized with measles. And their parents will have recalled the horror of smallpox. These childhood diseases which previously ravaged children and devastated families are now either eliminated or fully under control, all due to vaccination programs. Today we recommend vaccines as an adjunct to building your child’s strong immune system, to protect them against diseases like polio and measles, but also hepatitis, tetanus, and pneumonia. Such a vaccine program is also essential to the health and safety of our broader community. That said, we carefully and continually evaluate all vaccines for their efficacy and safety and additionally adjust vaccine schedules according to the needs of each child and desires of their family.
