Why am I hearing recommendations to get the flu vaccine? Does it offer any protection against Coronavirus 19?
The flu vaccine does not offer any protection against the COVID-19 virus. That said, not getting sick with Influenza (or any other non-COVID-19 illness causing cough and fever) during the next few months would certainly be desirable. Note also that, so far this flu season, there have been 24 deaths due to Influenza and 1 due to COVID-19 in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties combined (March 10, 2020).
